I just had one of the greatest experiences of my life! I got to go to Chicago as a guest on The Steve Harvey Show! I am still reveling with delight as I think back to every detail of this trip.
Leaving on the 10:30 am plane to Chicago from Portland, Oregon, I felt as if I was walking on a cloud as I strolled through the airport, through security, all the way to my gate. I felt it would be a little bit inappropriate to wear a huge hanging sign that said that I was flying to Chicago to be on The Steve Harvey Show, and since I didn’t know anyone at the airport, I had to sit there, alone in my thoughts, with a silly-ass grin on my face ~ chuckle chuckle. Dreaming about my adventure and wondering with anticipation about how the whole experience would take place, I was a happy little bird flitting around my own little cloud!
I arrived in Chicago at approximately 4:30 pm after a four hour uneventful flight. After deplaning, I hustled down to baggage to claim my overstuffed suitcase. Not knowing exactly what to expect at the taping, I prepared myself for anything and everything. Although The Steve Harvey Show has a wonderful wardrobe girl, I brought my own dress and boots, appropriate for the show, as well as clothes to wear to the studio. So why the heck was my suitcase so stuffed! After grabbing my bags, I went outside to find my ‘ride’, a nice, clean, big, black, SUV, with my very own driver! After he loaded my bags into the back of the SUV and assisted me to the backseat, he took off in a whirl down the snowy roads of Chicago. I daydreamed as I peered out the window from the backseat, taking in all that I could with my view from the back.
Arriving at my hotel, Public Chicago, at around 5:30 pm, I checked in and went up to my room. Since I am not familiar with Chicago, I decided not to go out to eat and ordered room service. I made a few calls to my husband and mom, and then had a great chat with my friend Linda Countess-Bloxham, who made me feel like she was there with me. Her excitement for me was comparable to mine, and she had such positive words of encouragement that she really helped calm me. Thanks Linda!
Tuesday, February 16, 2016, was the big day! My car was to arrive at 1:15 pm to pick me up and take me to the studio. So I had a few good hours to walk around and check out the nearby area, including icy Lake Michigan and the city sites! I love old cities with big, beautiful, old buildings. I stare at the details of century old buildings with awe and amazement. I love them! Chicago offered my eyes a nice treat!
I decided to try to eat something and only have one small cup of black coffee. I knew that if I drank anymore coffee than that, I would probably become way too anxious. Avoiding sweets, I chose scrambled eggs with sautéed spinach. Perfect choice, protein for energy with a little veges on the side. As I ordered my eggs I glanced over at a girl who looked familiar to me—it was Heather Thomson who I recognized from The Real Housewives of New York! I thought that was cool!
The car arrived a little early to pick me up and was already available when I came downstairs to check out at 1 pm.
Then we arrived at the studio!
We were welcomed by our amazing contacts, JOHN!
who took us to make-up, hair, and then on to our very own green room!
The entire crew was amazing; hair and make-up, wardrobe, sound, art, all the crew and directors, producers, and everyone in between!
Then they brought us out of our green room to get ready to hit the stage! My throat was so dry I thought I would not be able to talk! I prayed a lot while waiting.
Steve was hilarious! I hope we have a lot of good laughs when the show airs!
The show is scheduled to air March 23, 2016 on NBC. I hope we all get a good laugh from it and maybe a little education!
